A faux-documentary about a fictional artist from the 1960s, Ava Zarr contains interviews with fictional characters as well as real artists, filmmakers, and critics including Lisa Steele, Atom Egoyan, and Mark Kingwell. Concerned with problems of historicity and historiography, the work rearranges the chronology of contemporary developments in time-based art. It employs films, videos, and photographs of both real and staged artworks and events as it adopts and subverts, honors and critiques, the tropes of documentary and documentation.
